The unit of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, JPNATC is having state of art mortuary facilities with cold storage to preserve 12 dead bodies.
The department is responsible for conducting postmortem examination of all medico-legal cases who expire within the premises of JPNATC
Clinical Forensic Medicine:
The department provides consultation services to the CBI, Crime Branch and other investigating agencies from Delhi and other states in complicated medico-legal cases under supervision of Professor & Head. Expert opinion is given in cases referred by the hon'ble Courts of Delhi and other states.
Faculty also provide expert advise in examination of cases for age estimation, medical examination, of blood samples for DNA Profile and other cases referred by the courts, CBI and other investigating agencies as the member or chairman of the board.
Round the clock coverage to the casualty in medico-legal cases in injury, sexual offences, poisoning, age estimation etc is provided by the department
Appearance in the court of law as an expert witness in cases summons received from the courts in Delhi and the courts of other states.
The department provides guest faculty for various training programs organized by CBI Academy, Ghaziabad, LNJN National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Sciences, NIPCCD, Delhi, Delhi Judicial Academy, Delhi Police (HRD Cell) and AIBHAS, Amity University. Lectures and demonstrations are also given to CBI Officers, Judicial Officers, Medical officers and forensic science experts from all over country on a regular basis.
Collaborative research work with other departments like department of neurosurgery, pathology and pharmacology. The department is in the process of setting up a cadaveric lab for research & training of various specialties like neurosurgery.
