Mission
The mission of the Trauma Radiology Section is to provide rapid, comprehensive and expert clinical radiology service to the patients at the
Jai Prakash Narayana Apex Trauma Center, AIIMS, Delhi, while also advancing the use of non-invasive imaging in Trauma care through research and education.
Faculty and Staff
The Trauma Radiology Section consists of three faculty members, 31 radiology technicians, and 6 senior residents on rotation

EQUIPMENT

  • Radiology section at the Trauma Center is equipped with state of art equipments consisting of two flat panel radiography units (one in emergency bay), 6 mobile digital radiography units (stationed in emergency, ICUs and wards), one digital fluoroscopy unit, one dental unit, two state of the art 128 slice Multidetector CT scanners including one dual energy unit, one 3T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) unit with all advanced applications, 3 ultrasound units and one Digital Substraction (DSA) unit for interventional procedures. Besides the above, the Radiology section also provides services to the C arm units in OTs and portable head CT scanner in ICU. The Radiology section has a full fledged PACS and RIS and is a filmless department for the last 12 years.

Services

  • X rays – 1 lakh
  • Ultrasound – 30 thousand
  • CT scans – 26 thousand
  • MRI- 1200 and Interventional procedures – 150
    • The faculty members have training and extensive experience in the use of non-invasive imaging modalities to diagnose acute injuries and their complications resulting from either blunt or penetrating trauma. Working in concert with Trauma Surgeons and other specialists, the Trauma Radiologists are on-site around-the-clock, providing specialized diagnostic imaging interpretations and consultations. In addition, the faculty members of the section oversee image acquisition, tailoring studies according to the type of trauma sustained, while also supervising Radiology residents.
    • The state of the art Dual-energy CT scanner acquires images that have greater anatomic detail and provide more functional information than other current CT technology, while doing so more rapidly, scanning head-to-toe in less than one minute, with less radiation dose to the patient. Patients at Trauma center also have access to advanced MRI technologies with 3T system, that facilitate comprehensive evaluation of brain, neurovascular and spinal injuries.

Academics and Research

  • In addition to providing around-the-clock clinical service (diagnostic and interventional), the section is academically active. Radiology Section faculty members regularly publish book chapters and peer-reviewed research in areas related to Trauma Radiology, lecture at national society meetings and participate in the training of residents in Diagnostic Radiology, Trauma Surgery, and trauma orthopaedics. The faculty of the department have more published more than 400 articles in peer reviewed journals and have delivered more than 400 lectures in various educational forum.
