The Department of Emergency Medicine at the JPN Apex trauma Centre of the All India Insti-tute of Medical Sciences started on the 26th No-vember 2007. It boosts of taking care of approxi-mately 150 acutely injured patients per day. The emergency department has a triage area, Red area, Yellow area and a green area. It also has a minor Operation Theatre, Plaster Room. ED has trained manpower such as consultants, senior residents, junior residents, nurses and paramedics to take of the acutely injured. The patient is wheeled in to the triage desk where the triage officer, based on the evaluation of ABCD triages to the Red area, Yellow area and the green area. Patients are treated as per ATLS protocol and ACLS if they are unresponsive.
